Brute Force Attacks have targeted a lot of users. Due to this Cyber Attacks, users are worried. The reason behind this attack is the lack of proper knowledge.

In this article, we will see what is Brute Force Attack and its Prevention. It will help us in securing ourselves from this attack. Let’s begin our topic without wasting time.

Brute Force Attack Prevention

What is Brute Force Attack?

Brute Force Attack is a type of Cyber Attack in which the attacker steals the credentials of users such as usernames, passwords, and much more. They do not find any vulnerabilities in the network. They guess the password or use dictionary attacks to retrieve details of users.

They perform the Brute force attack to get access to unauthorized pages and websites. If a website is password protected or meant for some specific users, they perform Brute Force Attack to gather passwords and other credentials to enter into that website or network.

Now, we will see the Brute Force Method. We will also see how they perform this attack.

How this attack is performed?

In order to perform this attack, these attackers use several methods to get the passwords or other credentials of users. We will see all the methods of this attack along with Brute Force Attack Prevention.

1. Dictionary Based Attack

This is the most common type of Brute Force. Attackers use a list containing dictionary words. They run the dictionary words list to get the password using Brute Force Password Cracker Tools such as Hydra. When any word from the list matches with the password, they get the information that the password is cracked.

2. Simple Brute Force

In this attack, attackers use random words to get the password or other credentials of the users. In Simple Brute Force, attackers do not depend on the dictionary word list. They mainly perform this type of attack when there is no limit to the password login attempt.

3. Hybrid Attack

As the name suggests, in this attack, attackers use the mix up of both ways to get a password. Along with random guessing, they depend on the dictionary words list. It increases the chance of success of these attackers. They change the dictionary words to match with the password.

Brute Force Attack Prevention

We have seen every type of attacks under Brute Force. Now, it is time to see the prevention from it. We have mentioned some points. Follow them to become safe from this attack.

1. Use a strong Password

A strong password is very necessary to become safe from this attack. It is very easy to guess easy and short passwords. But, strong and long passwords are hard to crack. So, made a strong and long password consisting of alphabets, digits, and symbols. Also, avoid using dictionary words to become safe from dictionary-based attacks.

2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication will make you safe even after your password guessing or cracking. Attackers will not be able to login using passwords as they will have to complete the Two-Factor Authentication Process.

3. Do not same Password Everywhere

It is very necessary to avoid using the same password everywhere. If a website suffers from data breaching and all the data of its users get leaked, then attackers can log in to your account n another website using the leaked data. It is a very important point for Brute Force Attack Prevention.

4. Use CAPTCHA on login page

If you are the owner of a website, then use CAPTCHA on the login page. It will only allow human attempts. If attackers set up everything on a tool for password cracking, they will fail as the tool will not become successful in CAPTCHA Verification.
